Our Events

We are committed to lifting Black Maternal Health and the voices and stories of people impacted by reproductive injustice.

On May 5th we commemorate International Day of the Midwife.

May 05, 2022 06:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)

And while we celebrate and lift up the work of midwives globally we center on the work and impact of Black midwives in the USA who are helping to maintain our cultural birth practices and centering hope in a process that has become fearful for so many Black women and birthing people.

Our healthcare system is the most expensive in the industrialized world, yet the most deadly for new mothers. Black mothers die at three times the rate of white and Hispanic mothers. In fact, a Black mother with a college education is at 60 percent greater risk of maternal death than a white or Hispanic woman with less than a highschool education.

While this is an incredibly complex and deeply rooted problem within the United States, the film Deliver Us shines a light on accessible Black midwifery care as a powerful and immediate vehicle for change; as well as a way for viewers to get involved and make a difference.

This gathering will feature a screening and conversation where we will meet two incredible midwives at the center of the film, Deliver Us and we will also hear from the director/producer of this film.

Pushing Through Art Exhibition

June 25-July 31st, 2021

PUSHING THROUGH is an exhibition featuring a selection of artists who are also parents and unites those who share in this journey. The work of a parent artist is complex and invaluable because of the layers of stolen time, stress, inspiration and concentration/condensed production. Each artist in this exhibition embodies a great sense of resilience, resourcefulness and creativity.

The show has been curated by Dominique Gallery, a virtual and storefront gallery located at 5654 West Adams Blvd, Los Angeles, home to a growing community of artists and art spaces. Launched in 2015 as the Studio Gallery Center, the space evolved with the needs of the owner and the community and intentionally focuses on emerging artists of color and women.

A portion of proceeds from the show will be donated to the Mama Glow Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit committed to advancing reproductive justice through education, advocacy & the arts. By partnering with organizations committed to reproductive health and fostering a community of artist parents, Dominique Gallery aims to amplify the significance of holistic support and transparency from the start of the parenting journey and beyond. Additionally, by highlighting the contributions of artists to the narrative of perseverance and creativity, Dominique Gallery hopes to unite artists and their families and patrons in the common goal of pushing through and ultimately sustainability.

PUSHING THROUGH goes live on Artsy.net on June 25 – July 31st. Follow @dominique.gallery for updates on the artists and email [email protected] for sales information.
